McKendree Theatre performed "Silent Sky," the true story of 19th-century astronomer Henrietta Leavitt, March 30-April 2 at the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts on campus.

McKendree University students are gaining valuable experience and earning college credit as participants in the Career Services internship program during this year's spring semester.

Students in McKendree University's Chamber Choir took to the stage on Friday, March 24 to perform a concert featuring female composers, arrangers and poets.

Eight students in McKendree University's Honors Program participated in a full day of student presentations, keynote speakers, and networking opportunities at the annual Honors Council of the Illinois Region (HCIR) Student Spring Symposium on Saturday, Feb. 25. The symposium was held at Lewis & Clark Community College in Godfrey, Ill., and welcomed honors students and faculty members from across the state of Illinois.

The McKendree University speech and debate team recently finished its regular season with an additional 20 awards and six first-place finishes over two tournaments, qualifying three more events for nationals.

Senior Peyton Osgood, a psychology major, and McKendree alum Colby Price, who majored in biopsychology, recently authored and published an article on evolutionary psychology in the peer-reviewed research journal Evolutionary Behavioral Sciences. Peyton and Colby teamed up with their research supervisor, Dr. Guy A. Boysen, professor of psychology at McKendree University, to author the paper.

McKendree University students represented the delegation from Kenya at the American Model United Nations conference in Chicago, Nov. 19-22.

The McKendree University speech and debate team finished its fall season with 30 awards, including 10 first-place finishes.

Oscar Bossart and Ella Lehman, two McKendree University senior Honors program students, gave in-depth research presentations on Monday, November 28. In the Honors program, students work with a faculty member to write a thesis within their major field of study. The program culminates with a public presentation.

McKendree University band and choir students took to the stage to present "A McKendree Christmas!" on Friday, Dec. 2 at the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts. The concert, which was livestreamed, featured performances from the concert choir, Chamber Choir, wind ensemble and concert band.

McKendree University senior Breanna Sampo is a 2022 recipient of the Abraham Lincoln Civic Engagement Award and a Student Laureate of the Lincoln Academy of Illinois.

Two McKendree University students were recently crowned as McKendree University's 2022 Homecoming Royalty during Homecoming Weekend on Saturday, Oct. 29. Additionally, two more students were chosen as Attendant Finalists.

McKendree University junior Naya Busbea, a political science major, and Dr. Ann Collins, professor of political science, teamed up to discuss midterm voting in a presentation called "What's Up with the Midterm Elections?" on Wednesday, Oct. 26 during the University's weekly Brown Bag event.

Students in McKendree University's Concert Choir and Chamber Choir participated in McKendree's fifth-annual Fall Choral Invitational on Thursday, Oct. 20 at the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts. This year, the event featured students from Edwardsville High School, Marquette Catholic High School and Mascoutah High School, along with guest composer and conductor Ryan Main. The McKendree University Chamber Choir performed "Lirum, Lirum" by Thomas Morley, "Wide Open Spaces" by Sarah Quartel and "Singing, Bring Me" by Ryan Main. The McKendree University Concert Choir performed "Inveniam Viam" by Ryan Main, "All Things New" by Elaine Hagenberg and "Verduron." Both choirs were under the direction of Dr. John McDonald, director of choirs, and accompanied by Melissa Ray on piano.

The McKendree University Speech and Debate Team opened its season at Southwest Baptist University's Derryberry Memorial Tournament from October 7-8.On October 22, McKendree competed in the Missouri Mule hosted by the University of Central Missouri. McKendree will next compete at the University of the Pacific from November 4-6.

McKendree University band students in the wind ensemble, concert band, jazz combo, and jazz ensemble performed on the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 19 at the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts. The concert was free and open to the public.

McKendree University junior Samantha Elling gave her junior vocal recital on Tuesday, October 18 at noon in Bothwell Chapel. Melissa Ray, instrumental and vocal accompanist, accompanied Samantha on piano.

Emmanuel Segbedzi, a senior at McKendree University, was recently named a Student Member of the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE). The computer science major was appointed to join the Student Advisory Committee on the Board on August 18 and was officially announced a student board member by Executive Board Director Ginger Ostro on September 27 in Springfield.

McKendree University band and choir students participated in the Fall 2022 Music Department Showcase Concert on Monday, Oct. 3 at the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts. The concert featured performances from the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Chamber Choir and Concert Choir.

Two McKendree University psychology alumni and one psychology student recently published research regarding schizophrenia and the stigma the disorder still faces. This collaborative research was done as part of a research practicum course under Dr. Guy Boysen, professor of psychology at McKendree. The journal's abstract can be viewed here.

Twenty-four McKendree University upperclassmen served as New Student Orientation (NSO) leaders or UNI 101 peer mentors during the week of August 17-21. NSO leaders are upperclassmen who help introduce first-year students to life at McKendree. These leaders oversee small groups of new students and lead fun social activities, educational programs and volunteer service to prepare and inspire the incoming students to experience a rich, successful first year as a college student. UNI 101 peer mentors share a passion for serving McKendree's first-year students and partner with instructors during University 101 classes held throughout the semester. These classes help make the transition period from high school to college life as smooth as possible.
