The McKendree University Speech and Debate team started its season with competitions on back-to-back weekends. On Sept. 20 and 21, the team competed in Lincoln-Douglas style debate in an online tournament hosted by Washburn University. On Sept. 27 and 28, the team competed in National Parliamentary Debate Association style debate in a tournament hosted at Rice University in Houston, Texas.

Students in McKendree University's concert choir and chamber choir took to the stage to perform on Sunday, Oct. 5 at the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts.

McKendree University psychology graduate, Mia Wylie '25, psychology student, Kelsey Lyles '26, and biopsychology student, Divine Favour Ozomma '26, have coauthored a peer-reviewed article on academic taboos in psychology education. The article appears in Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Psychology, a journal published by the American Psychological Association that features research on effective teaching in the field of psychology.

McKendree University students are gaining valuable experience and earning college credit as participants in the Career Services internship program during this year's fall semester.

The Phi Eta Sigma National Board of Directors recently announced the Founders Fund scholarship recipients for the 2025-2026 academic year. Four McKendree students, senior Benjamin Anderson, senior Jonathan Davenport, senior Raeghan Henrichs, and senior Divine Favour Ozomma, were named as recipients of the scholarship and were deemed to have met the necessary criteria of involvement in Phi Eta Sigma, along with holding a high scholastic record.

Zane Phillips, an international relations major from Chambersburg, Ill., received the 2025 Technos International Prize on Friday, May 9 during the undergraduate commencement ceremony. The Technos International Prize is given each year by the Tanaka Ikueikai Educational Trust for outstanding academic achievement and a commitment to the cause of international understanding.

Alpha Kappa Delta, the international sociology honor society, recently welcomed new members on April 24, 2025 as part of McKendree's Academic Excellence Celebration.

Jordyn Dallas, a junior at McKendree University and resident of O'Fallon, Ill., studied abroad at the American College of Greece this summer. Jordyn, who is a secondary education history major, took a macroeconomics class and a world civilization class at the college.

The McKendree University dance team hosted their annual Dance in Concert event on Friday, March 8 at the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts on campus.

Shelby Nash, a McKendree University senior Honors program student, gave in-depth research presentations on Tuesday, November 28. In the Honors program, students work with a faculty member to write a thesis within their major field of study. The program culminates with a public presentation.

Breanna Sampo of Peru, Ill., has been awarded a Fellowship worth $8,500 by The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi - the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Sampo is one of 62 recipients nationwide to receive a Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship.
