McKendree University's Sports Management Students to Host Fast & Furriest 5K Fun Run April 12
Proceeds from the race will benefit the Metro East Humane Society
Lebanon, IL (04/02/2025) — Students in the McKendree University sports management program will be hosting their Fast & Furriest 5K Fun Run on Saturday, April 12. The race, which is open to the public, will start at the Hett on McKendree's campus and will begin at 8 a.m. Runners are also encouraged to bring their four-legged friends along for the event, which is suitable for those looking to run, walk or simply enjoy the atmosphere.
Costs to participate in the race are $20 for students and $30 for the general public. Special t-shirts will be provided for runners while supplies last.
This year, McKendree's students will be raising funds for the Metro East Humane Society, a nonprofit organization located in Edwardsville, Ill. Donations will help ensure that adoptable dogs and cats will continue to be provided with quality shelter, care and love as they await their forever homes.
This race marks the class's 11th year of a hands-on, experiential learning Sport Event and Facilities Management course that raises funds for a local nonprofit organization of the students' choice. Developing, planning, executing and evaluating this event helps these students put their classroom learning to use and understand real-world scenarios. It also gives students experience in sales, marketing and sponsorship, as well as opportunities to network outside the classroom.
