McKendree University Makes "Great Colleges to Work For" List

by Tina Napper

Lebanon, IL (09/22/2025) — McKendree has recently been recognized once more as one of the best universities in the nation to work for, according to the Great Colleges to Work For program.

The results, released today at GreatCollegesList.com, and via a special insert of The Chronicle of Higher Education, are based on a survey of 199 colleges and universities. In all, 76 of those institutions achieved "Great College to Work For" recognition for specific best practices and policies. Results are reported for small, medium, and large institutions, with McKendree included among the small universities with 500 to 2,999 students.

"McKendree University, Illinois' first and finest, is a great place to work because of the collaborative, creative, and caring members of our campus community," said Dan Dobbins, president of McKendree University. "Our 'One McKendree' principle guides our daily intentions focused on mutual respect and dignity for each other, engagement, and open dialogue at all levels with an emphasis on life-long learning and a commitment to provide growth opportunities to our highly talented faculty, staff, and students."

The Great Colleges to Work For program was designed to recognize colleges that have been successful in creating great workplaces and to further research and understand the factors, dynamics, and influences that have the most impact on organizational culture in higher education. This year marked the 18th anniversary of the Great Colleges to Work For program. All accredited institutions in the United States with an enrollment of at least 500 were invited to participate.
