McKendree University Student Alexis Scurlock to Volunteer in Jamaica

Alexis Scurlock of St. Louis, Mo., a senior at McKendree University, will spend an "alternative spring break" in Morant Bay, Jamaica, March 10-16.

Scurlock, a organizational communication-management major, is among 11 McKendree students and three professors taking part in the cross-cultural sociology practicum. Throughout the week they will build three houses, work with over 100 children at a community school, and visit residents at an infirmary. The group is also taking donated supplies to schools, nursing homes and health centers.

McKendree University was recently named to the 2013 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, and ranks among the top quarter of regional universities nationwide in U.S. News and World Report's 2013 "Best Colleges." For more information, visit www.mckendree.edu
