Himani Patel Attends Sigma Zeta National Convention

2018 Mar 27

Himani Patel and other members of McKendree University's Beta chapter of Sigma Zeta attended the national science and mathematics honor society's annual national convention, held March 1-3 at Evangel University in Springfield, Mo. She presented a research poster, “Comparative Study of Alkaloids and Antioxidants in Tinospora cordifolia and Withania somnifera.”

The convention provides an opportunity for students and faculty members to gather, share with, and learn from the activities of other local chapters and the national chapter. The event includes research presentations, awards, field trips, committee meetings, and social interaction. The McKendree students were accompanied at the convention by Dr. Robb Van Putte, professor of biology; and Dr. Mickey Schutzenhofer, associate professor of biology and chair of the division of science and mathematics.

McKendree's Beta Chapter is the oldest remaining active chapter of Sigma Zeta, which encompasses more than 60 chapters from coast to coast.
