Chloe Thies Helps Out in Jamaica for Spring Break

2017 Mar 22

Chloe Thies spent spring break doing service projects with other McKendree University students and professors in Jamaica, March 8-17. Their "alternative spring break" was part of a Cross-Cultural Practicum, a class in which students analyze global issues and the impact of globalization on social inequality. Each year a group from McKendree typically works at a home for the destitute in Morant Bay on the island's southeastern coast. Throughout their 10-day stay, they built a two-bedroom house for a family from the foundation up, worked on small construction projects at a school, and donated books, backpacks and educational materials. A $300 donation by the Mascoutah Rotary Club funded the purchase of walkers, canes, reading glasses and medical supplies for those in need.
